Horse Paddock Grass-Pasture Management
After a long dry period your horse paddock will be looking depleted, so now is the time to put into effect your Horse Paddock Grass-Pasture Management plan. While we are waiting for the weather to turn, start doing the work now. So once the rain arrives, we can quickly implement your grass rejuvenation program.
To start with (if you haven’t already) section off the area that your horse will not be using for the next few months. We do this to give the best change for the grass to grow, and this will alleviate further compaction of the ground by the horses.
Remove any debris/sticks and clutter from the area to ensure the best possible access for the machinery to all parts of the paddock.
Implement your weed control now while you are waiting. This can also be done after, but if you still have the time why not do it now.
Now the waiting game begins for the next big down pour or if you can irrigate, the area needs to be soaked to the point that you are able to stick a butter knife in approximately 10 cm. This is needed so that the aeration machines can be more successful and reach maximum depths.
While you are waiting why not contact All Grass Solutions and let us know that you are ready to go and to obtain your free quote for the costings. We have a list of standby customers who are waiting for the first rains to occur.
This is where the rejuvenation begins, first we will aerate using our Paddock Aerator, the Aerovator. See the Aerovator in action here,

Next depending on the agreed course of action, we generally fertilise using a formula that is used for pastures and then over seed with a Pasture blend of seeds. Our system, aerates, over seeds and smooth over and covers the seed with a harrow in one pass. I know a lot of you might be worried about fertilising your horse paddock here is some helpful information on the subject www.wayneswcd.org/Equine%20Ed/FAQ%20fertilizing%20p.pdf
A soil test is the scientific method used for knowing what amendments are needed for your soil. Whether it be too high in clay content and require lime, or perhaps nitrogen and sodium is lacking. We can cater an amendments treatment to suit your individual scenario.
