How to get green grass with lawn aeration
We would all love to have green grass and one of the tools that we can use to achieve this is lawn aeration. Like the name suggests aeration, allows your grass to breath. Heavily trafficked grass, lawn care equipment and even play, gives enough downward pressure to cause a compacted layer of soil and thatch, blocking the pathway and exchange of CO2 and oxygen, effectively starving the roots of the grass.
When you aerate it gives it that breath of fresh air to the roots and promotes a greener and healthier lawn.
Aeration is, the mechanical removal of plugs/cores of grass, thatch build up and soil, thus allowing oxygen, nutrients and water into the root system. With the desired outcome of relieving compaction, improving aesthetics and ultimately promoting healthy green grass.
After you have aerated your grass it is suggested that you feed your grass with a good organic fertiliser to help make your grass green again. It would also be a great idea to top dress your lawn to help the soil replenish and to fill in those uneven spots on your lawn. We often suggest a blend of course river sand and nutrient rich top soil.
For those of you that have a patchy lawn or just one that is a bit sparse, now would be a great time to seed/over seed the area as well to help promote that green grass look that you are going for.
Weeds can be one of the most annoying and challenging aspect to deal with when trying to achieve your green grass, there are several weed and feed products on the market that will assist you with this pesky problem. Staying on top of the weeds will give your grass an opportuity to thrive.
