Horse Paddocks

We all know what impact horses play with erosion in a paddock, it is hard at the best of time to keep the grass growing well. With the correct grass management you can help your grass grow. It is good practice to always spell your paddocks to let the grass grow without the interference of the horse in the paddock.

During this period it is a perfect time to aerate your paddock and give it the best chance of rejuvenation. The plugs that have been removed during the aeration process can also be used to top dress your paddock with our pro core processor, it will disperse it right back out to your grass as a top dress layer, if you so choose to have this option.

Another helpful tip is, it’s also advisable to have your soil tested before hand to see what is lacking in the soil so that it can be added at the same time of the aeration as an extra option if you choose to take it up.

Fertilising a grazing paddock can be tricky but with the correct quantity and disbursement method it can be achieved. Ensure adequate rain 12-15mm, the correct quick release (grazing type fertilizer) is used, and approx. 2 weeks minimum spell is adhered to before reintroduction of grazing animals.

With the correct management of your paddocks during the spelling period it will help cut down your costings for horse feed during the year and that is something that we would all want.
